Training and assessment for Sea Kayaking leadership awards on the Pembrokeshire Coast

The Pembrokeshire Coast isn’t just a spectacular backdrop for your learning. It offers a phenomenal variety of dynamic, wild environments ideal for developing confident, responsive, adaptable and skilful paddling at sea. 

SEA KAYAK LEADER TRAINING

You should be confident to maneuver in up to force 3 winds and/or tides up to 1 knot and have a reliable roll and rescues in moderate conditions.

SEA KAYAK LEADER ASSESSMENT

You should be ready to be assessed leading a group in moderate conditions.

SEA KAYAK ADVANCED LEADER TRAINING

You should be confident to maneuver in winds up to 4 knots, tides up to 2-3 knots and swell/surf up to 1-1.5m. You should have a reliable roll and rescues in advanced conditions.

SEA KAYAK ADVANCED LEADER ASSESSMENT

You should be ready to be assessed leading a group in advanced conditions.

Why take a BCAB Leadership Award?

The British Canoeing Awarding Body Sea Kayak Leadership Awards have been established to recognise an individual’s ability to competently lead sea kayaking groups at sea. 

You may be an experienced, independent sea kayaker wanting to share your passion with others and be a dependable group leader at sea, or you may be an outdoor instructor looking to expand your range of qualifications. 

We offer both preparatory training courses and accredited assessments. We recommend joining us for the appropriate training course prior to booking your assessment to ensure you do your very best. 

Which level award should I take?

The great thing about BCAB Leadership Awards  is that they allow for direct entry, meaning you can decide the appropriate level at which to enter depending on your previous experience. We’ll help you decide if you’re unsure.
