What to expect on an Intermediate Sea Kayaking Course
Delve into the awe-inspiring scenery of Pembrokeshire’s iconic coastline with expert local guides and a small group of paddlers at a similar ability level.
Our Intermediate Sea Kayaking Course takes the basics of boat handling, rescues and tidal planning into more dynamic conditions. Emphasis is placed on developing your skills in a variety of environments along the wild Pembrokeshire coast, from close quartering in the rock gardens of the intertidal zone to handling your kayak in swell, tidal flow and small surf.
With high-quality individualised coaching from expert local guides, your personal development is our top priority. We’ll endeavour to address your specific goals throughout the course, and you’ll come away with personalised feedback to further develop your training.

- Rescues
We will help you develop your ability to safely perform deep water rescues and eskimo rescues.
- Surf
We have consistent surf with beaches that have varying levels of exposure to our Atlantic swells. This allows us to choose the right size surf to help you develop your surfing skills
- Tidal Flow
Pembrokeshire is home to some of the strongest tidal flows in the UK (and the world). We have a range of great venues that offer gentle progression into the world of moving water. Weather permitting, we will introduce you to this dynamic environment during our courses.
- Navigation, Planning and Decision Making
This is an integral part of becoming a self-sufficient sea kayaker. Each morning we will look at the forecast together to decide the best location for the day. Pembrokeshire has some of the most exciting tidal flows in the British Isles and is the perfect venue to learn and refine your tidal understanding, planning and decision making.
- Journeys
We try to adapt to our ever changing seascape and use this amazing outdoor classroom to develop your skills whilst we journey along the coastline. We often journey up to 10 miles along the coastline, travelling through the rock gardens, caves, tidal races and surf beaches.
- Personal skills
Small group sizes mean we have the opportunity to tailor the course to the interests of the group. If you have any specific areas you wish to cover, you’ll have the opportunity to suggest these at the outset. With plenty of scope for personalised coaching, we can help you reach your highest potential throughout the course improving specific aspects of your paddling vocabulary.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR +
This course would be a good fit for anyone who feels like they have mastered the basics on flat water and would like to start pushing their comfort zone in more dynamic conditions.
