What to expect on a bespoke wildlife tour
Close encounters with the creatures of the marine world in their natural habitat is one of the soul-soaring joys of sea kayaking. These special moments offer us a deep and humbling connection to nature. The Pembrokeshire Coast is world-renowned for its wildlife diversity, its untouched shorelines, wild waters and remote offshore islands providing ideal habitats for a plethora of rare and wonderful species.
From playful and inquisitive grey seals popping up and nibbling your paddle to dolphins and porpoises breaching and jumping a short distance away… ocean sunfish sunbathing on the surface to compass jellyfish drifting on the currents beneath. Gannets diving, peregrines hovering, cormorants perched majestically on rocks, fulmars chattering on high cliffs, guillemots and razorbills fishing, gliding choughs and acrobatic ravens overhead, migrating shearwaters riding the air currents above the water and the one of the UK’s largest colonies of puffins nesting on the offshore islands… the abundance and diversity of marine birdlife is absolutely phenomenal.

TIMINGS +
09:00 – 17:00 is the usual schedule we follow in order to make the most of the day, but we can be more flexible to your needs on a bespoke trip. For example, if you’re hoping to observe the manx shearwater migration, we may be able to organise a sunset trip.
DATES +

Come in the autumn if you’d like to responsibly observe the seal pupping season, with enormous colonies inhabiting the remote beaches of the Northern coastline and offshore islands.

Bespoke trips are suitable for all ages.
TRIP CONTENT +
We will work with you to build your ideal itinerary, planning journeys where we are most likely to encounter the wildlife you’re most interested in (weather permitting).
EXPERIENCE LEVEL +
Bespoke Sea Kayaking experiences can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, as they can be adapted to suit different levels of fitness and experience.
You will need to be:
- Comfortable in and on the water
- Able to swim or happy to float
For those interested in making the crossing by sea kayak to our offshore islands, you will need to either hold or be at the ability level of the BCAB Advanced Personal Performance Sea Kayak Award.
WHERE? +
You’ll meet at our base near Solva to get kitted up (exact location will be shared in your confirmation of booking) and we’ll head to a nearby harbour which we’ve chosen to best suit the conditions on the day.

Bespoke wildlife tours are for anyone who wants to connect with the abundant wildlife of Pembrokeshire’s coastal shores, waters and offshore islands.
You may be part of an organised sea kayak club, a group of friends, an adventurous family or you may be a solo paddler.
You may be an ecologist, marine biologist, researcher or nature-enthusiast with a specific interest, who wants to engage with this incredible environment first-hand and benefit from the knowledge of a local guide.
